Just started playing Spider-Man: Remastered
Spider-Man holds a special place in my heart as a childhood superhero and an inspiration for nerdy teens. I remember when I went to the cinema to see the Tobey Maguire movie, and I remember being totally blown away.
Swinging mechanics
I remember being equally blown away by Spider-Man 2 and its amazing swinging mechanic. Sure, the swinging in the first game was okay, but it was in 2 when things fell perfectly into place. It was the first game that truly captured the feeling of being fully in control of Spidey’s movements while wrangling the unpredictability of swinging from building to building.
Which made it hurt all the more when swinging systems got simplified (arguably for the worse) with each successive sequel. The worst offenders don’t even bother with needing a building to attach your webs to and have our webslinger swing around in thin air.
In Spider-Man: Remastered, things finally turn around for our friendly neighbourhood main character. Once again, we have an intuitive yet robust swinging system that interacts with the world in a realistic (enough) manner.
Combat System
The combat has also been a joy so far. You have your Arkham-style brawler with counter-based gameplay, making good use of our main character’s spider sense as your dodge warning indicator. As far as I’ve seen, combat has been challenging with tight dodge windows, making you feel even more like Spidey when you get a perfect round of combat.
